Galley kitchen floor plan
Two parallel runs of counters with a walkway between them, the classic narrow kitchen.
About this layout
A galley kitchen puts everything within a step or two: sink and worktop on one side, hob, oven and fridge on the other. It is the most efficient layout for a narrow room.
Tall units (fridge and a larder cupboard) sit at the far end so they do not break up the worktop.
Before you copy it
- Keep the walkway between the runs at about 110–120 cm; much narrower and open dishwasher or oven doors block it.
- Avoid putting the hob directly opposite the sink if two people often cook at the same time.
