There is no single world standard for doors and windows. The sizes below are common starting points; always check the product range sold where you live, and measure existing openings.

Internal doors

Region Common door leaf widths Common height
UK 610, 686, 762, 838 mm (24–33 in) 1981 mm (78 in)
Much of mainland Europe 600, 700, 800, 900 mm about 2000–2100 mm
US and Canada 24, 28, 30, 32, 36 in (61–91 cm) 80 in (203 cm)

The clear opening is narrower than the leaf, because of the frame and the door's thickness when open. For wheelchair access many standards ask for at least about 80–85 cm of clear width.

Front doors

Front doors are usually wider than internal doors: about 81–91 cm (32–36 in) in the US, and 838–914 mm in the UK. Double doors and side panels are common for wider openings.

Garage doors

Single garage doors are often about 2.1–2.5 m wide and double doors about 4.3–5 m, with heights around 2.0–2.1 m. Check the width you need for your car with its mirrors and doors open.

Windows

Window sizes vary too much for a single table, but some numbers help when planning:

  • Sill height: often around 80–100 cm from the floor in living rooms and bedrooms, lower for floor-to-ceiling glazing, higher in kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Head height: usually lined up with the top of the doors, around 200–210 cm.
  • Escape windows: many building codes require bedroom windows large enough to climb through in a fire; check your local rules.

In Roomdraft

New doors are 90 cm wide and new windows 120 cm; change the width in its properties (select the door or window) to match your opening. Plan-wide door height and window sill and top heights are under View and units, and each opening can have its own in its properties. They are used in the estimates and the 3D view.
